“Little Miss Muffet” is one of the best-known
nursery rhymes and children's songs, printed
in the mid-twentieth century. The rhyme is
popular among the preschoolers and kids all over the world. A song is
about a young girl, Miss Muffet and the dreadful fright she had
while sitting on a tuffet. Miss Muffet sits on a tuffet and enjoys
feasting on her favorite curd. Suddenly, a spider comes and poor
Muffet gets scared and all her curd is spilled on the floor.
Origin of the song
The nursery rhyme first appeared in a book, Songs for the Nursery, in
the year 1805. Origin of the rhyme is not known till date. Some
claims it was composed by Dr Thomas Muffet, an English physician and
entomologist, regarding his stepdaughter Patience. While few claims
that the song refers to the queen of Scots (1543-87), Mary, who is
believed to have been frightened by religious reformer John Knox
(1510–72).
