Singing Games Associated To Nursery Rhymes And How To Play Them

Several nursery rhymes are accompanied by singing games. These games are enjoyed and played by kids all over the world and are one of the popular and kids' favorite outdoor games that keep them entertained during their leisure hours. Let's learn about how to play singing games to different nursery rhymes.

London Bridge
London Bridge” is a popular English nursery rhyme and a singing game. In the game, two kids hold their hands and make an arch with their arms and sing the rhyme. The remaining children pass through in single file. At end of the song, an arch is lowered to “catch” a player.

The Muffin Man
Kids enjoy playing a game to “The Muffin Man” rhyme. In the game, the first player turns to the one standing next to him/her and sings,"Do you know the muffin man? The muffin man, the muffin man. Do you know the muffin man who lives in Drury Lane?". The person, who is addressed replies by saying "Yes, I know the muffin man. The muffin man, the muffin man. Oh, yes, I know the muffin man, who lives in Drury Lane." Upon this they both sing, "Then two of us know the muffin man, the muffin man".

Now the second person turns to the third one, repeating the same words, who then replies in the same way and so on.

The Farmer in The Dell
In the game, all the kids form a circle holding hands around one kid, who is designated as the farmer and sing the first verse of "The Farmer in The Dell" while moving around farmer. As the first ends, they stop and the player who is designated as farmer makes his choice of a wife. The wife then joins the farmer in the center for her verse and so through the verses until only one kid is left to become the last character. The last person then usually become the farmer for the next round.
